I take a look at the figure of the writer as a life companion, able to anticipate and shed light on our future sorrows, inhabiting the space between innocence and acceptance of the end, patient and resolute, occupying that strange threshold between timeliness and lateness, full of an awareness that we don’t want to reach, holding our hand when it’s not us holding it out to him.
